Every Child Can Succeed
Higher Order Thinking and Math Olympiad

Starting from “1, 2, A Thinking You” to “9, 10 Alakazam”, our curriculum has been developed to ensure progressive competency towards higher order thinking.   The spiral designed curriculum ensures that our topics are revisited and introduced in increasing depth advancing from each level, so that our children can consolidate the concept and skills learnt and further develop them.

BACKGROUND
Our approach has been researched by Dr Yeap Ban Har of NIE, supporting our innovative teaching methods in "developing a thinking person in our students".  Our Math Olympiad programme has been introduced to the following schools with encouraging results : -

APPROACH
We advocate concrete-figural-abstract development of concepts and this is evident in our activity-based approach to utilizing higher order thinking skills in a variety of IQ, Math Olympiad and non-routine problems.  

Our programme harnesses the fun element of games and challenges to demonstrate the power of strong reasoning ability of good problem solvers.  Students will go through a series of stimulating challenges that will bring to life the core foundation of effective problem solving.  They will work through IQ problems with emphasis on mathematical investigation hence gaining superior logical reasoning ability. Effective thinking skills will be imparted during the lessons.  

Qualities of good problem solvers will be demonstrated and Students will able to apply the art of problem solving which helps to prepare them for greater challenges in school and in life.

At Scharff-VIP, we treat learning Math Olympiad as an investigative problem solving process.  We help students lay the foundation to carry out investigation on their own for "tricky" and non-routine questions. As we clarify and direct the students to the path of discovery for the students, quantum leap in their confidence and self-esteem develop naturally.

LEARNING OUTCOME
Our children should be able to apply the concepts learnt in problem solving and solve relevant non-routine Math and multi-step mathematical problems and/or Math Olympiad questions confidently and independently.

Responsibility of the Students to own their role as a Learner.
